Board Member

Purpose of the role:

YOUR LOCAL COMMUNITY NEEDS YOU!! This is an exciting role to shape the future of the Hereford South West(Newton Farm and Hunderton) Pride in Place Programme, as a member of the Neighbourhood Board you will guide the investment of £20m of government investment over the next 10 years to help the local community thrive.

A Board member will be someone who can bring communities together to share their ideas in an open and collaborative way. Their primary role will be as a champion for their place and to embody the community-led spirit of the programme.

We are looking for people who live or have connection to the local area, and are passionate about leading change through community engagement. We are looking for people of all ages and backgrounds, and you don’t need any previous experience of this kind of work to apply.

A Board member is best when they act as a proactive, trustworthy representative who:

• Is deeply connected to their community and fiercely and passionately committed to making it an even better place to live
• Can bring together different voices from across their community, to shape a collective vision for the future of their place
• Has local credibility and will be respected – even if this is their first community board role
• Thinks laterally and creatively about new ideas and ways of working and ways to draw in community voices

Skills and attributes of a good Board member:

• Fair and balanced, ensuring that all voices are heard
• Passionate, energetic, and knowledgeable about their local area
• Welcoming, open and listens deeply to others

Role will be voluntary, similar to that of a school governor or charity trustee. Board members will be able to claim all reasonable expenses.

A summary of key timescales are as follows:

• Deadline for Expressions of Interest end of 10th May 2026
• Shortlisting will be completed by 18th May 2026
• Interview will be held early June 2026 (date TBC)

The core criteria that will be considered in the shortlisting and interview process will be:

• Currently or previously live or work in the Pride in Place area (Strongly connected to the area)
• Demonstration of commitment and passion to supporting the transformation of the Pride in Place area
• Are committed to a community led approach to identifying priorities and implementing change
